The adapter ring is recommended if there is no NK ‘cup’ – in some boats there is a hole for the ring, but no ring fitted. The ring fits into the hole.
Alternatively if there is no hole, the ring can be inverted and mounted on any flat surface. It is supplied with 4 x self tapping stainless steel screws.
